Before Kelita's Cork, there was a name that only one person used for me. And that name is where this all began.
A name that meant love
My grandfather was the only one who called me "Kelita." That name stayed with me. It wasn't just a nickname. It was love, it was identity, it was connection. I didn't realize at the time that one day it would become part of something so much bigger.
I'm a mom, a wife, and the founder of Kelita's Cork. More than that, I'm a woman learning to trust God deeply through motherhood, challenges and healing.
"Why am I waiting?"
There was a moment when everything in my life slowed down. I was in the hospital, and I remember thinking: why am I waiting to do what God already told me to do? Why am I waiting to start?
That moment didn't just start a brand. It started this whole journey.
Built in faith, not perfection
I want to be honest with you: what you see today didn't come easy. I had to learn everything on my own, from taking pictures to marketing to building a website, things I had never done before.
This journey hasn't always been easy. But I've learned how to pick myself back up, to keep going when it's hard, and to trust God even when things don't make sense. I believe in this mission, I believe in this purpose, and I believe in this brand.
Why cork?
I've always loved cork. I was introduced to it during summers in Portugal, and something my grandmother always taught me stayed with me: embrace your natural beauty, and be who God created you to be. That became the heart of this brand.
Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak tree. The tree is never cut down. The bark is carefully harvested by hand, and it grows back again. That makes cork:
- Sustainable, renewable and completely natural
- Water-resistant, so a little rain is no problem
- Lightweight, perfect for a busy mom's everyday life
- Vegan, a beautiful alternative to leather
God designed it that way. And every piece is different, every texture and every pattern. Sometimes what we see as imperfect is exactly what makes something beautiful.
Beautifully made, just as they are
As women, we are constantly told what beauty should look like, what is perfect and what is acceptable. But that's not how God created us.
As the mom of a child with Down syndrome, I've seen how the world tries to define beauty. But our children are beautiful, so beautifully made, just as they are.
